A workshop with Thiago Rosa and Annika Niemann

A central reference point of the current ifa Gallery Berlin’s exhibition, Gods Moving in Places, is the literary work of Édouard Glissant – eminent French-speaking Caribbean author and pioneer of postcolonial theory. The workshop approaches selected texts and poetic fragments of Glissant’s writings in three collective readings set in various locations in Berlin. Using experimental physical formats to challenge and question typical reading habits, it enables participants to develop new perspectives on the exhibition.

In Reading Session 1, participants will read Glissant in the context of Minia Biabiany’s installation at ifa Gallery Berlin, a work based on the significance of “bodily thinking.” Drawing on Édouard Glissant’s “thought of the trace” to approach Biabiany’s work, the performer Thiago Rosa will employ physical exercises and choreographic experiments that bring together movement and text while simultaneously setting them against each other.
