Péter Gémes is no stranger to Berlin. A small selection of his works was on view at the Haus Ungarn as part of the project “Grenzenlos” (Borderless) in 1993. . The ifa Gallery Friedrichstraße of the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen now presents an extensive solo exhibition of Péter Gémes’ work from 1989 until today.

Péter Gémes, who is considered one of the most important and interesting artists in Hungary today, quickly found his medium and his own visual language in photography after his studies at the Warsaw Academy of Arts. For him, photography is a means, but not an end. The individual photo is the basic element of a subsequent arrangement, which is then elevated to the status of a valid image. In this way, installations of great visual charisma and power in up to 30-parts are created.
