Guniwaya-ngigu is possibly the first documentary made by Aboriginal people, notably the trailblazing political-filmmaker Madeline McGrady and the now renown contemporary artist Tracey Moffatt. It follows the events as hundreds of Aboriginal people from across the continent converged in Musgrave Park on Jagera and Torrubul land (South Brisbane) to rally against the Games and the notoriously oppressive Queensland Joh Bjelke-Petersen Government. As a significant display of Aboriginal resistance, the protesters drew international media attention to their struggle for land rights, leading to mass arrests. The film features performances by the musicians No Fixed Address and activist-actor Gary Foley.
