The exhibition “Aspects of Young Lithuanian Photography”, showing at the ifa Gallery Friedrichstraße, is a follow-up to the show “Aspects of Lithuanian Photography” shown in December 1993. Lithuanian curator Dr. Raminta Jurenaite shows the changing spirit of the times reflected in the works of the younger generation. While the work of the older photographers is dominated by the depiction of peasant life and a down-to-earth approach to life, the current generation of photographers focuses on man-made environments and objects, the “world of things”. An experimental approach is prevalent, as is a strong need for symbolism. Dr. Jurenaite, who is also one of the curators of the exhibition “The Memory of Images – Baltic Photo Art Today” currently on display at Berlinische Galerie, selected the exhibits for the ifa exhibition in such a way as to provide interested members of the public with an in-depth, complementary insight into Lithuania’s photographic scene. For this reason, the ifa is organising this exhibition almost simultaneously and in consultation with the Berlinische Galerie.
