Led by curator Susanne Weiß and artist Karla Woisnitza, the tour of the exhibition Rauschen: Echoes of an Institution offers insights into the history of the Centre for Art Exhibitions of the GDR (Zentrum für Kunstausstellungen der DDR, ZfK), which operated between 1973 and 1990 at the intersection of state cultural policy and international cultural exchange.

Through artworks, archival materials, and contemporary artistic positions, the exhibition reconstructs a little-explored chapter in international art history. At its core is the notion of Rauschen (noise)—the multiple voices and subtle traces that emerge beyond an institution’s official narratives. The tour explores the exhibition’s curatorial approach and highlights how historical documents, works from the former ZfK collection, and contemporary artistic interventions enter into dialogue, opening up new perspectives on the institution’s history.
